Abstract

sport is a phenomenon that is very present in society. In recent years it has been configured as one of the human manifestations that has been developing the most (MARCHI, 2004). It has had considerable growth since the early 1960s, especially in the United States, Canada and West Germany (ELIAS & DUNNING, 1992). However, Sociology seemed to consider sport as a minor object of study and few sociological currents discussed it, even if it was strongly linked to the object addressed by them or to areas considered classic by sociological theories, such as Education, Economics and Policy. (ELIAS & DUNNING, 1992).
