Public policy decision making on the continuity of the cycle path in the city of Xalapa, Veracruz
Abstract
Problematic: Currently the City of Xalapa, like other capitals of Mexico, suffers from complex vehicular traffic, this causes slow, unsustainable urban development and economic activity that is affected, that’s why governments must take care of making public policies to offset such a situation. Objective: to determine, under the perception of the population, the feasibility of continuing the cycle path to improve urban mobility and promote health care, providing information for decision-making in public policy that the municipal administration could implement. Resources and methods: this research is descriptive, quantitative and under the deductive method with a sample of 384 residents. Results: it is highlighted that based on the analyzes, the continuation and expansion of the current bike lane is feasible. Discussion: the contribution of the research determines that the bike paths could be a means that take an important place in the means of transportation of society, improving the mobility of citizens, the opportunity to perform physical activity without cost restrictions, social class, age or gender. Conclusion: continuity and expansion could be carried out as long as citizens are made aware of the benefits of its use and training for a road culture of both motorists and cyclists who use this means of transport. Contribution and originality: design of a reliable and valid instrument with four dimensions: sustainability, economy, health and social sector.
